Writer's Note — David Chen on July

If you're planning to hike up Lycabettus or walk the Acropolis, go early or go home. I tried the Acropolis at 11am in August — 36°C, UV 10, zero shade, miserable. June at 7am was a different world: 24°C, golden light, mostly empty. The Meltemi wind picks up July-August afternoons, giving some relief but kicking up dust. Spring hiking around Mount Hymettus is best April-May: 20°C, wildflowers, manageable UV. Sea swims are glorious September-October when the water's still 24°C but the air cools to 26°C.
